Germany removes airport transit visa requirement for Indian nationals

Effective 3 June 2026, Indian nationals no longer require an airport transit visa to enter the international transit area of a German airport during a stopover or connecting flight.

This decision follows Federal Chancellor Merz’s visit to India in January 2026 and underscores the German Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening German-Indian relations, facilitating travel between the two countries, and supporting closer economic ties.

As per Commission Delegated Regulation 2024/1415 amending Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 as regards the amount of visa fees, Schengen visa fees will increase from 80 EUR to 90 EUR for short-stay visas for adults and from 40 to 45 EUR for short-stay visas for children from 6 to 12 years.

The new visa fee will come in force on 11 June 2024.
